ODP Research Presented, March 27, 2008

The Older Dominion Partnership's initial Residents' Study research findings confirm that there is a direct link between Virginia's aging Boomers' quality of life today and "how prepared" they feel to navigate issues related to aging. In addition, the research suggests there are five primary areas that are directly related to Boomers' own sense of aging preparedness. These include: managing finances, affording healthcare, being engaged in the community, finding the right place to live, and locating/coordinating information and services.

Using this initial research to help prepare Virginia for the day when aging Boomers double the Commonwealth's senior population, the ODP Implementation Team has identified five initial priority initiatives and formed Work Groups to explore each. While there is some natural and helpful overlap, these Work Groups will address the five preparedness areas listed above. The initial ODP Work groups include:

1. Shared Database Work Group
2. Healthcare & Long-term Care Insurance (LTCI) Work Group
3. Information Coordination & Promotion Work Group
4. Workforce Readiness Work Group
5. Community-Level Readiness Work Group
