Summarize your professional background relevant to Age Wave preparedness.
This is my first position within this industry. I spent the last 12 years in Marketing and Advertising Management at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk. I am currently a member of the local city Task Force on Aging organizations. I am on the committee for the Norfolk Senior Olympics.
What expertise or other strengths do you bring to the Older Dominion Partnership?
My expertise centers around gathering market data, public relations and fundraising, and extensive familiarity with traditional advertising and online.
What do you believe are the most pressing issues in Age Wave-preparedness in Virginia today?
I’m in my 40’s, and when I think of Age-Wave preparedness for me, I realize that I may not know where or what resources are available to me as a future care-giver. How will Medicaid and Medicare change and impact my loved ones in the near future? I think educating the public is probably one of the biggest tasks to tackle in the upcoming years.
What advice do you have for age wave planning in Virginia?
I would advise to think about the different ways in which to educate the care-givers/family and elders. To one group educating and communicating via the Web may be more effective, while another group may require methods that are more traditional. It’s important to bring focus now to this growing population, where many people don’t think about it until they have to. The growth is projected to be so great, that waiting until the last minute will be a strain on resources available to those seeking them.
